Hip replacement, or total hip arthroplasty, is a surgery that replaces worn-out or damaged hip joints that cause pain or disability. Damage is usually caused by fractures or degenerative joint diseases like arthritis, where cartilage and bone breaks down overtime. Our orthopaedic surgeons replace your damaged joint with a new, artificial joint.
What does surgery look like?We perform different types of hip replacements – total and partial – with different approaches like anterior or posterior. Your surgeon will discuss the best option for you after an extensive evaluation of your condition. Surgery usually last 1-2 hours, with an additional 1-2 hours in recovery. You will be required to stay overnight on our Ortho/Neuro floor, where you will receive specialized nursing care and direct access to our rehabilitation gym. It’s our goal for you to begin physical therapy immediately after surgery to start moving your new joint.
What does recovery look like? The recovery process begins the same day as surgery but looks different for each person. It could take 6-12 weeks or longer depending on your health. The therapists at North Oaks Rehabilitation Services work closely with your surgeon throughout your healing process.
Knee replacement, or knee arthroplasty, is a surgery that “resurfaces” knees that are damaged or worn from severe injuries or degenerative conditions like arthritis. The goal is to replace damaged parts of the knee joint using metal or plastic parts to relieve pain and restore function.
What does surgery look like? Most total knee replacement surgeries are "outpatient," meaning you can go home the same day, but your surgeon will discuss the best option for you depending on your condition. We use the ROSA® robot for total knee replacement surgery, which usually lasts 1-2 hours. You will spend an additional 1-2 hours in recovery, then your surgeon evaluate you for (1) discharge or (2) admit you for an overnight stay if needed.

Dr. Lands was my mom's surgeon and I could not be happier. I feel very blessed to have had him involved in her care.
Dr. Lands did a hip replacement surgery on my right hip. He was very informative explaining what was going on with my hip prior to me having the surgery. He said it has to be done in order for me to return to a normal way of life but I postponed it. He also said and I quote “you’ll know when you’re ready”...lol. I was in a lot of pain and Dr. Lands gave me meds to curve the pain until I was ready to schedule my surgery. Dr. Lands was right and after months of dealing with the pain and scheduling office visits I scheduled my surgery. The surgery was GREAT! When I came to I was not in any pain and I was able to walk within hours of my surgery of course with the assistance of a walker. I was in the hospital for just one night for observation. If you’re having problems with your hips I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Lands to do your surgery.
